Was browsing the games on Play store, and i downloaded Survive – Wilderness survival

One of the best games downloaded, because there are no ads, no distractions, and you feel the developer is just trying to use Unity to create the best game he can. It’s a simple game, and i guess once you cracked it, you won’t want to play it anymore? Not very sure. For now, i’ve uninstalled it. 🙂

After playing it for about a week, i’ve hit the tipping point in understanding how to crack the game. I’ve died by dehydration, starvation, and also no more body heat.

Like I said, after a week, i’ve managed to win the game.
What i learnt :
- READ; and know the details. Raw meat from gutted hares can only be cookable after X hours. It was written in the inventory. If i’ve read this early enough, i would have won this after 3 days i think. I’ve got to learn how to read properly, patiently.
- OBSERVE; this is just as powerful as READ. Meat can be cooked two ways, and the cooked meat from the different methods actually can last different duration. Observation is usually not accurate because of my hasty nature.
- Slow and steady wins the race; sometimes i lost games because i tapped too fast. There’s actually no hurry as there’s no countdown timer per say, other than the fire burning away. It’s actually ok to just browse around the inventory, and think.
- Know when to rush to the objective; the point above is as important as this one. Cos when there’s enough energy, heat, hydration, and stamina, i managed to hopped twice to the final destination.
- Patience; when things get repetitive, it’s time to slow down, and start to think how to improve it. Or not. But it’s good to pause and think of the next strategy.
- Same strategy = same result. Try something, new results.
- I’ve always foraged like crazy whenever i reach a new destination. Always gives me shit like crickets, berries. Things of very little energy. Each forage takes up 1 hour. And i do that at night as well. So i stopped doing that. Instead, when i reach a place where i can place traps, i do that. And i get rewarded with (small) fishes, hares.
- I also went hunting, usually went for 3 hours, and got nothing. Only once i got a deer, so it’s tiring, expensive ( need time to carve spear ), and time wasting ( another 3 hours of hunting plus 1 hour of looking for tracks )
- When i reach a new destination, first thing i do is to use 1 hour to set up the thing to collect rain water. Rain water doesnt need to be cooked, and it always rains.
- Never eat the unknown berries, weird mushrooms or uncooked meat.
- Always craft a fire plow. This will save your matches and magnesium starters.
- Fire during rain : Even when it says it burns more quickly, it’s ok! Cos we have lots of wood.
- Provided you go collect wood during the day. Yes do it only during the day.
- Carelessness cost lives : I’ve always got small fishes. Once gutted, i get 1x raw meat. Then when i set traps, i got hares. When i gut it, i thought it gives me 1x raw meat. Actually it gives me 3 ! You can cook or smoke the raw meat. When cooked, it also gives you more energy, 600 to be precise. I’ve also misclicked a few times to lose the games.
- Experiment, experiment, experiment. Even though the internet allows you to ask so easily, it’s way better to keep trying and failing, and then you got it, by yourself.
- Always do things when you have energy / stamina. When you’re tired, go and rest. There’s no point forcing things when it takes 2x time to complete something, and it’s still badly done.
- Know which are distractions : There’s actually lots of things you can do in this game. Foraging is one example. It takes 1 hour of your time, and the rewards are little. I only forage when i’m desperate. I guess we need to focus on the 4 bars, instead of trying to forage till it’s finished. Another example would be crafting. You can craft many things. You can make a birch bark torch. Which seems reasonable and useful, but it’s a waste of time.
- Grab the low hanging fruits : When you start ( i think the items are randomised ), there’s cans of peas, soda, clean water, meat jerky etc. I just finish them right at the beginning, so that there’s less to carry.
- Divide and conquer. Break the game itself into smaller sessions. Have full energy to play it, and you will succeed. The final game took 39 minutes, but i didnt play it at one shot. it was done throughout the day.
- Talk to your loved ones. For me, talking really sorts out stuff in my brain.
As you have already realised, i really love reviewing games. But i can only do those which i’ve completed / played long enough to know all the details.
