Power Weekend at Trinity

Rev Nathan Morris sweating it out at Trinity

This guy is an answered prayer, at least for me. God forgive me – i do judge pastors on the stage by the content, movements, tone, slang, and weight. There are some of them as rigid as a tree trunk – i always thought : are they afraid that their suit might be wrinkled if they move too much. Weight – some of them are just not agile. Slang – most of them practise in front of the mirror to get the perfect slang, and perfection means it’s fake. Even our favourite pastor slips off some words. more on him in the next para. A lot of them are just so stressed or tensed, they are afraid that they might say the wrong word, or couldnt deliver the core of their messages. So yes, i judge them.

Of course – Sr Pastor Dominic is in not any of those categories. He demands your attention with word fillers, he talks like he’s your friend, and yet he reminds you that he’s your pastor. While he is an instrument of God, he is real. And authenticity is something a lot of people lack these days. When others speak, you wonder if they’re just doing their job. When Dom speaks, you KNOW he’s doing his job, but yet, you know he cares for you.

So – Back to Nathan Morris. I was feeling lazy today. When i want to procrastinate on things, i like to do OTHER “good” things to delay the real event. Today, i did some nesting. It’s long overdue. Truth is- i got myself a 65$ red switch Ducky keyboard, and i want to find my set of Keycaps to swap some caps out. I couldnt find it. PLUS the house is a mess. So this morning, i started throwing things out, Yixin rearrange the sofa to face the TV, and arrange the soft foams and gate to match the sofa. I found my keycaps of course. And somehow, we finished at 1030. I went to shower, and we still had time to go Trinity.

We threw away the new stroller’s box, rearranged the mousepads into better boxes, asked yixin to bring 2 mousepads to work, arranged all the keyboards, arranged a space so that stroller can be in the store room, hung all the umbrellas at one side, took mental note that last tissue box and toilet papers are open, changed battery for Dry cabinet ( thank god it’s not spoilt-  just need to change battery for the LCD ), found a wireless Mac keyboard, with the batteries intact from 2 years ago; melted, and we can’t open it up; coins also got turned, retrieved the Spectre breast pump. Threw away things from projects like NUSOAM, radiusWorld, Bioplastics, etc.

Of course we forgot all about power weekend at Trinity. There are just so many great events at Trinity. So we reached at 11plus, carpark was full. Usually i am so lazy that we split right there and then. But Yixin was adamant about going Trinity, so I just parked behind. Also, we always siam to ECOS but the thought of communion in ECOS, makes us avoid it. Is this the mud?

Yixin was lazy, so i tried to coax her to Passion Cafe – saying there are tvs there. We sat down there, but couldn’t hear a thing. And Yixin said – we need to be inside.

When we went in, the sanctuary was full to the last row. When we were walking past the tvs, my peripheral vision saw that there’s this guy jumping up and down, and shouting on stage. Generally i do not like noise, so i was like – sigh.. so loud.

But eventually, we stood at the last row, and we were wowed. Non stop excitement and moving of the holy spirit ( to tears; countless times ). This is very important, therefore i am taking 30 minutes to document this down.

Story : God put mud on the blind man, and ask him to go to the pool.
Funny thing is, as a blind man, wouldn’t you ask God, won’t the mud make me blind even IF you have really healed me? But the blind man walked by faith. The moral of the story is, there are times when SEEMINGLY God put mud on you – but you have to keep walking.

Even if we’re paralysed by bad church, bad leadership, naysayers – we have to keep moving. Keep walking. Nathan was wiping his face with a hanky, and he’s sweating through his suit, and he’s jumping up and down the stage. He’s trying to tell a story here. As he said “Walk on, walk on”, he’s always miming the blind man – grappling in the dark, reaching for things for direction, but keep moving. Keep moving.

And he sang “Amazing Grace”, which is a totally unassuming song. Not a hit, just a old school Christian song. And that’s what makes it wonderful.

Summary :

  • When we go through life, mud will be on us. God put it there so that we can walk by faith, and we have to keep walking. It’s not about walking alone or not. It’s about keep walking.
  • When we pray, Satan will come on a bicycle, with a cigarette in his mouth.
  • Use naysayers as stepping stone.
  • Everybody goes through hard times.
  • Speak it. Speak it. We have to speak it to realise it. If we hear it, but we don’t speak it, the word is asleep in us.
  • It’s a mindset – satan is everywhere. But so is Jesus. Satan loves to distract us. He loves to plant excuses in our heads. We need to fight it.
  • Life is a journey. I tear because 7 years ago, I was truly blind. And mud was put on me. But I walked on. I just took it in the strides. I just ate the shit. Now, I see partially. Perhaps I can be much better. It’s amazing what Jesus promises us. Every single thing that I am today, is because I did reflections, mistakes, errors, disappointment for some people. So i learnt-when someone disappoints you, you’re just their stepping stone, so that THEY can be a better person. Nothing is wasted. Experiences change people. This is also relevant when we think about children. We were all children once. we disappointed many people. We have to give them a chance to disappoint us, so that they can grow.
